Ocean Basket’s seafood platter
The first time I noticed Ocean Basket was at night. I saw this brightly-lit building with umbrellas on an outdoor deck. The place was buzzing with people. I knew immediately I wanted to go there. But first, a bit of background: Ocean Basket is a South African chain of restaurants found in South Africa (of course), Zambia, Namibia, Mauritius, Cyprus, Dubai and now, Nigeria. Ocean Basket’s focus is on sea food so its location, just a short walk from Bar Beach, makes sense.
You can just see the upstairs patio in this picture
I went to Ocean Basket on a Saturday afternoon. It was a really hot day so I chose to sit inside instead of under one of the many umbrellas on the patio. Ocean Basket offers a range of sea food and has a whole separate menu for sushi. I ordered the Seafood Platter which had 3 mussels, 6 large prawns, Linefish, Calamari and Calamari heads and came with chips. The food took about 30 minutes to arrive meaning I was starving by the time it was placed in front of me.
Is your mouth watering yet? 🙂
The mussels and Calamari were great but I found the fish dry so I mostly ignored it. Overall, while the staff were friendly and the meal good value for money, I was not amused by the amount of time it took for the food to get to me. In the end though, Ocean Basket seems like is a good place to have an affordable meal with friends.
Price: The food and drinks (a bottle of Fanta, a bottle of Heineken and a glass of wine) cost N5,500.
Address: Plot 1392 Tiamiyu Savage Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
