Ortakoy Mosque, Turkey
Turkey is one of the places Corrine would like to go on holiday.
Going Places is a regular feature on this blog. It is an interview-style feature where different personalities tell us the highlights of their holidays. Enjoy it.
1. Tell us about your very first holiday.
It was – ironically, because I live here now! – to Sydney, Australia with my family, when I was approximately 7 years old. I loved it! I’m originally from Wellington, New Zealand, and Sydney just seemed so different in every way imaginable.
2. What is your most memorable holiday?
My first adventure to Europe, when I was 21, handsdown. Largely because hey, it was EUROPE (and oh, she’s a beauty!), but also because it was the first time I’d hopped on a plane all by myself. Actually, it was the first time that I’d completed a HEAP of things by myself (traipsing through foreign cities, meeting new people, sharing hotel rooms with total strangers!), and really experienced being on my own… and it taught me, as cliched or lame as it probably sounds, more about myself that I ever could have imagined.
3. What do you like most about vacations?
Oh, sheesh. DO YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF HOURS?! 😉 Marvelling at foreign architecture and accents! Sampling various CUISINES! Combing unknown territory! Exploring HOTELS! The actual plane trip itself! (Yes, I’m nuts – I truly enjoy the ride AND love plane food. Mental, I know!)
4. What do you hate most about vacations?
Hmmmm. Farewelling each glorious city? That, and the fact that being a vegetarian, eating nutritionally on-the-go can be tricky. I re-visited Europe in October last year and literally spent almost an entire month living off fried potatoes (but even still, it was totally worth it!).
5. How would you spend your perfect day on holiday?
By waking up slowly, dressing up and heading out for a full day of exploring. I’m a big walker and experiencing a city by foot and taking a bunch of photos is my favourite way to savour everything!
6. Where would you most like to go on holiday? Why?
Gosh, can I answer ”everywhere”?! Okay, I’ll stop being such an interview pest. TURKEY! And GREECE! And NEW YORK! And HONG KONG! They all look so phenomenally interesting and beautiful, and I’ve been itching to visit New York since my father first sat me down as a five-year old and told me that it was his favourite place on earth.
