Going Places with Ibrahim Samande

Shanghai is one of the places Ibrahim would love to visit.

1. Tell us about your very first holiday.

When I was about 6 years old my folks took my sister and I to Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. All I recall from the trip was getting lost and crying my eyes out until some security guards came to my rescue. I was escorted to a surveillance room and remember being shown about a dozen monitors and asked to identify my parents. I did and in no time, they were called on the intercom to come collect their little ‘rug rat’.

 2. What has been your most memorable holiday?

I flew my girl to the northern capital of Iceland, a town called Akureyri for her birthday. Rumour had it that one of the best sea food restaurants in the country was located there and I wanted to give her a treat for her 31st birthday. We spent most of the day checking out art exhibits, had a dip in one of the local hot baths in town (Iceland is known for having numerous hot tubs out in the wild) then ended the day by treating her to an exclusive 5 course dinner at the sea food restaurant with a violin player to serenade the birthday girl. The night ended very well for me as you can imagine.

 3. What do you like most about vacations?

The feeling of being anonymous. You can do just about anything you want.

4. What do you hate most about vacations?

Going with people who aren’t adventurous.

 5. How would you spend your perfect day on holiday?

I’d love to rent a motorcycle and ride around the place, enjoying the breeze and sights all at once then probably close out the day with some really nice dining, drinks and live music.

 6. Where would you most like to go on holiday? Why?

Shanghai and Tokyo.  I’m mystified by both Chinese and Japanese cultures.  I’ve been told Shanghai is the perfect blend between modern and ancient China, aside from also being one of most beautiful cities in the world. As for Tokyo, I’ve just got to visit the electronics Mecca of the world.

Ibrahim Samande is a graphic designer and musician. When he’s not working for Prima Garnet Ogilvy, you can find him at Yerima Design – a 3D animation and design hot-shop based in Lagos.  And when he’s not there, you can find him behind a piano somewhere penning the lyrics to a new song.
